With over 286,000 residents, Douglas County grew by more than 1.8% in 2007. The labor force alone has grown to 151,171, and increased by 30,732 since 2000, an average annual rate of 4,390 people. While the labor force has grown 29% in the last five years, jobs have increased 46%. Over 12,028, or 9%, work from home, and 69,169, or 51% are employed in managerial or professional occupations.

Douglas County also has the lowest unemployment rate of all Metro Area counties, with a 12-year average of 2.7% since 1994, compared to the national average of 6.9%. As of August 2006, this stood at 3.3%.
