Sounds good. How do I get started?
That's easy! First, you need to install the download manager on your computer. You only need to do once: it takes 2-4 minutes. Follow these instructions online to help you through the process and when you’re finished, a shortcut to the download manager will appear on your desktop.
What do I need on my computer to run it?
You must have a broadband Internet connection, the latest version of your Web browser (Firefox & Internet Explorer provide the best results), Microsoft Vista, Windows XP (with SP2) or Windows 2000 (with SP4), as well as Flash Player 9 & Windows Media Player 10 with the most recent security update, a 1 GHz processor or faster, and 1 GB of space available on your hard drive. MyLibraryDV’s software will automatically detect and alert you of any necessary Player upgrades to access the service and will aid in their installation.
Can I watch the videos on my Mac?
MyLibraryDV will run on a Mac as long as Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10 are installed on it. But, most Macs currently do not have the ability to install this software.
Why must the manager be installed?
The manager is necessary to securely download MyLibraryDV programs. After installing the manager the first time, though, you'll only need to use the icon on your computer's desktop or in its program listing to launch the MyLibraryDV player.
How do I browse the videos?
You can browse the programs on MyLibraryDV using the Channel Guide on the left side of the screen, or the genre icons (Movies, Documentaries, etc.) from the center screen, in the MyLibraryDV download manager. To look through titles under the Channel Guide, click on your desired category such as Travel or Food, and then on your topic of interest. Here you will find an alphabetical listing of the programs for easy browsing. If you wish to view more information about the video, you can click on the title or the “I” button. Both take you to a program information window where you will find the program synopsis, additional information such as the download size, and duration of the video and a “Download” icon. If you wish to browse from the image and title display in the center screen, clicking on an individual program will make the program information window appear as above.
How are videos downloaded?
Simply click the “Download” icon. The title will be added to your “My Downloads” play list and begin downloading immediately. If your Internet connection is lost while downloading a video, just re-establish the connection and the manager will resume the download from the point it was interrupted. MyLibraryDV also does not need to remain open while movies are being downloaded. The download manager will automatically continue to download the content even when the application is closed, as long as the Internet connection remains uninterrupted. After videos have been downloaded, the MyLibraryDV Player will access the content from your computer’s hard drive, whether or not there is a connection to the Internet.
How long does it take to download a video?
It depends on a combination of factors, such as the length of the program, the connection speed, and the hardware configuration of your personal computer. They download automatically one at a time, but you can select more than one program to download. It's possible to change the order of the programs in the queue by simply clicking on the title of the video to take priority, but the default is for the manager to download programs in the order they were selected.
How many videos can be checked out at one time?
Up to 10 titles at any given time, as long as there is space available on your computer’s hard drive. Each program has a 7-day checkout period and you can view the time remaining on each program by going to your “My Downloads” play list. The time remaining to watch the program is displayed next to the “Play” icon. You can download one movie every 24 hours, and after you hit the "Play" button, you have a 24-hour viewing period. After the 24-hour period ends, the movie will be deleted from your collection.
How can I check the status of my downloads?
Just drag your cursor over the status bar in the "My Downloads" play list to display the percentage downloaded.
When and how can I watch a video?
You can actually beginning watching videos as soon as the "Play" button appears, once you begin downloading, or once it's complete. Just be aware that varying connection speeds can cause momentary pauses in play when you watch it while it's downloading called "buffering". Buffering occurs when what you're watching has to catch up to the file being downloaded. A text message will appear below the video, encouraging you to pause for several minutes while the video downloads further. If buffering continues, your best viewing experience may be with completely downloaded videos. Once a video is completely downloaded, open the MyLibraryDV Player, go to your “My Downloads” play list and click on the “Play” button next to the title you wish to view. Using a cable hook-up, programs may be viewed on a television or other monitor. This requires a video to s-video conversion cable and a y-audio splitter. Please view the flash demo in the “Help” section of the player for more information.
Can I watch the videos on a computer in the Library?
Sorry, but no.
Can downloaded programs be transferred to external devices?
MyLibraryDV works only on the hard drive the file was originally downloaded to, so files cannot be transferred to an external device.
How is a video deleted once it has been downloaded?
Videos are automatically deleted when the 7-day checkout period expires. If you choose to delete programs manually, open the Player and find the title to be deleted. Click on the “Trashcan” icon to delete the program from both the Player and the associated computer hard drive. Just be aware that deleted programs still count toward your 10 downloads if they're within the 7-day check-out period.
